Ingredients
  • 8 oz Ratalu (any shape, peeled )
  • Coarsely crushed black pepper (for sprinkling)
  • Coarsely crushed coriander seeds (for sprinkling)
  • Oil (for frying)
Instructions
  1. Cut the ratalu into ⅛ inch thick slices.
  2. Keep submerged in water to prevent browning.
Batter
Ingredients
  • 1 cup Gram flour
  • ¾ tsp Salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Red chili powder (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida (hing)
Instructions
  1. Mix batter ingredients. Gradually add cold water to make a smooth, lump free, medium consistency batter.
  2. Heat oil on medium-high heat, pour a tablespoon of hot oil in the batter and mix.
  3. Pat dry a few slices of ratalu at a time, dip in prepared batter.
  4. Sprinkle each dipped slice with pepper and coriander on top as you place in heated oil.
  5. Deep-fry a few at a time until golden brown.
  6. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
