Bread Pakora
Ingredients
- 2 slices Bread (edges trimmed)
- Butter
- Green coriander chutney (recipe under "chutneys, pickles, etc.")
- Oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Butter the bread slices, spread a thick layer of chutney on both slices and form a sandwich.
- Cut into four squares or four triangles.
- Heat oil on medium-high, dip bread sandwich in prepared batter.
- Coat completely and place in heated oil.
- Deep-fry until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel.
Basic Pakora Batter
Ingredients
- 1 cup Gram flour (sifted)
- 1 tbsp Rice flour
- ¾ tsp salt (or to taste)
- ½ tsp sugar
- ½ tsp red chili powder (or to taste)
- ¼ tsp Ground black pepper
- ½ tsp Ground coriander/cumin mix
- ¼ tsp Turmeric
- ¼ tsp Asaafoetida (hing)
Instructions
- Combine the flours, gradually add cold water to make a smooth, lump free, medium consistency batter.
- Add the spices and mix well.
- Just before making pakoras, mix ¼ tsp of baking soda (optional).
