Ingredients
2½ cups
All purpose flour
2 tsps
Baking soda
2 tsps
Ground ginger
1 tsp
Ground cinnamon
½ tsp
Ground cloves
1 cup
Butter
1½ cup
Light brown sugar
¼ cup
Dark molasses

Egg
Extra sugar
(for coating)
Instructions

In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.

In another large bowl, beat together butter, sugar, molasses and an egg until pale and fluffy.

Using a spatula, fold half the flour in the mixture.

When fully incorporated, add the remaining flour and continue folding until all the flour is absorbed.

Shape dough into 2 inch balls.

Roll around in sugar to coat.

Place on ungreased baking sheets, 3 inches apart.

Flatten slightly and bake for 12-15 minutes.

Cool on a rack.
