Ingredients
  • 2 cups All purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Dry yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • ¾ cup Water (lukewarm)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsps Oil
  • 2 tbsps Plain yogurt
  • ⅛ tsp Baking soda
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water and leave for 10 minutes, the mixture will be frothy.
  2. Combine salt and baking soda in the flour, add oil and yogurt and mix.
  3. Add yeast water and make a soft dough.
  4. Knead well for 3 minutes, using dry flour as needed, the dough should be smooth.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place for about 4 hours. The dough should have almost doubled in volume.
  6. Preheat the oven 450°F
  7. Knead the dough for 3 minutes on a floured surface then divide into 6 balls.
  8. Roll each ball into 8 inch long oval shapes, place directly on the heated oven rack and bake 2-3 minutes until golden and puffed.
  9. Remove and spread butter or ghee on top.
  10. NOTE: You can also roast cooked naans on a griddle, to get brown spots.

  • Garlic (powder or crushed fresh)
  • Green onions (chopped)
  • Green coriander (chopped)
  • Kalonji
  • Black sesame seeds
Instructions
  1. Sprinkle any one of these ingredients on the rolled naan and press with a rolling pin.
  2. Bake or roast.
