Khichdi
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice
- ¼ cup Moong dal
- 1 tsp Salt
- ⅛ tsp Turmeric
- 2 Garlic (thinly sliced - optional)
- 1 tbsp Ginger (grated - optional)
Instructions
- Soak moong dal for 30 minutes.
- Mix rice and dal and wash.
- In a medium saucepan, boil 1 1⁄2 cups of water, add the rice, salt and turmeric. Stir and reduce heat to low, simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add garlic or ginger, if desired. Cover and cook until done and the water is absorbed.
Variation
Ingredients
- Tuvar dal
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 3 Cloves
- ½ tsp Whole cumin
- 1½ cup Water
- Salt (to taste)
- pinch Turmeric
Instructions
- Wash & soak tuvar dal for 1 hour.
- Mix with washed rice.
- Sauté in 1 tbsp ghee with 3 cloves and ½ tsp whole cumin. Add 1½ cups of boiling water, salt and turmeric and cook as above.
